The Yubay Falcons, known colloquially as Sava Side, are a professional hockey team based in Yubay, Tamokeva. They compete in the Torland Hockey League as a member of the Rankin Division. The team is owned by Dwight Dietrich and plays their home games at the Yertas Arena.
Founded in 1960 by Leo Rankin as the Trowburgh Lions, the Falcons are considered one of the league's premier teams. The Falcons have won 3 Marcotte Cup championships (1965, 1969, 1970).
The Falcons have a strong and very supportive fanbase, known for their intensity and blue collar sensibilities. The Sava Side regularly sells out the Yertas Arena.
The Falcons have a fierce rivalry with their in-city neighbors in Niko Side the Glaciers. Fans of both teams have engaged in numerous infamous brawls, especially in the late 60's when both teams went deep into the playoffs and made it to the Finals. The two sides of Yubay have a strong mutual dislike for each other that carries over into all of their sports teams.
Dwight Dietrich is the current owner of the Falcons, which he purchased in 1982. Leo Rankin founded the team in 1960 originally as the Trowburgh Lions before moving to Yubay to become the Falcons in 1962. Rankin suffered a major health crisis in 1973 which rendered him incapacitated and triggered a clause that gave control to his former business friend Barry Boyle in 1974. Boyle proceeded to make wholesale changes, much to the chagrin and ire of Rankin's wife Lynette and the fans in Sava Side. After a long legal battle, Lynette regained control of her husband's estate and took over team operations in 1975. Lynette ran the team for 10 years until she retired in 1982 and put the team up for sale. Local Yubay businessman Dwight Dietrich purchased the team.
The Falcons play their home games at the Yertas Arena in Yubay, Tamokeva.
The Falcons' colors are black, red, and silver.
The Falcons are affiliated with the Sava Side Blazers of the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL).
