Prestonburg is a large city in the state of New Dosa and part of the Greater Prestonburg-Vensessor Metropolitan Area (PVMA).
The industrial linchpin of central Torland, the city of Prestonburg is a working-class giant for goods and exports. The 2nd largest city in New Dosa, the area is home to hundreds of large manufacturers and dozens of massive mills, which service most of the fertile Cauldron Valley. Everything from crops to coal is processed out of Prestonburg. Its nickname of “The Molten City” is derived from both the iconic street of blacksmiths located in the Mill District, and also how the skyline would be lit up from all the furnaces at night. Smog and pollution is a significant problem, lending to a dirty reputation in the city. Despite that designation, Prestonburg water is clean and plentiful being located on the confluence of the Cauldron and Ferren Rivers. The city has developed many advanced eco-friendly techniques with an eye toward changing their dirty reputation but progress has been slow with how many big businesses refuse to support any change in environmental policies to keep their operating costs low.
The city itself is tight and cramped and wasn't built with much expansion in mind. The people of “P-Burg” are typically friendly and hard-working and tend toward conservative values. Both crime and education are fairly average. River traffic is heavy, as is most of the cities along the Cauldron River and the roads and highways constantly under construction due to heavy commercial use. The city is also serviced by Preston-Ludfast Airport, which though international, is much smaller than nearby Victory City Airport.
Prestonburg has a close but somewhat rocky, distrustful relationship with sister city district Vensessor, the national capitol. The people of P-burg especially distrust “Vic City” but are forced to use some of their amenities such as state school New Dosa University. Less than a rivalry, there is more of a naturally strong disdain for each other.
Tire manufacturing giant Goodwin Tires is based in Prestonburg, founded by Charles Goodwin.
Prestonburg is home to the Prestonburg Blazers of the Torland Hockey League. They play their games at the Cauldron Center in Prestonburg.
