The Alko Barbarians are a professional hockey team based in Alko, Pakola. They compete in the Torland Hockey League as a member of the Elam Division. The team is owned by Dick Valentine and plays their home games at the Enseco Center.
Founded in 1976 as the Guilden Barbarians, Valentine infamously moved the team to Alko in 1988. The Barbarians have not yet won a Marcotte Cup.
After moving to Alko, the fans on the eastern side of Alko embraced the Barbarians as their own, especially with the perfect fit of their style. The fanbase is still green but are eagerly supportive of their team and culture as a rough-and-tumble blue collar area.
The two teams in Alko are both young and newer to the league but the two could also not be more differently culturally and stylistically. The Wizards play in a much higher income side of Alko and prefer a fast-paced style of play. The Barbarians play in a rougher more blue collar side of Alko and prefer a defensive-heavy style.
The Barbarians are currently owned by Dick Valentine, who founded the team in 1976 originally in Guilden, and moved the team to Alko in 1988. The move was derided by the fans in Guilden who didn't appreciate the way Valentine ran the team and left town. Valentine is considered persona non grata in Guilden. Alko, however, embraced the new team wholeheartedly.
The Barbarians play their home games at the Enseco Center in Alko, Pakola. They played their first season in Alko in 1988 at the Rosa Nence Center in Alko, and they also played at Brimson Arena from 1989-1993.
The Barbarians' colors are black, red, yellow, and white.
